«Sealed enclosure with one (1) 13.5″» dia. subwoofer driver. 1000W amplifier/processor
Many subwoofers are designed to disappear into your walls, only to rear their ugly heads as soon as you start listening. The new Fathom® IWS systems change everything, offering true stand-alone JL Audio subwoofer performance that fits into a standard 2 x 4 stud space.
More important than the visual disappearing act, is their ability to disappear sonically, blending seamlessly with your mains to create a true audiophile listening experience. And, lest you think these are polite wallflowers… up to 2 kilowatts of controlled power driving state-of-the-art 13.5-inch subwoofers make sure that serious impact and extension are handled with complete authority and spine-tingling accuracy.
We wouldn’t call them Fathoms, if they didn’t earn the name.
Fathom® IWS Systems Multiple subwoofers deliver improved frequency response over a larger seating area, compared to a single subwoofer solution. For this reason, we strongly encourage that you consider the Fathom® IWS System Two… its twin subwoofer cabinets driven by the 2kW version of the IWS amplifier will result in greater output and significantly improved bass quality for multiple listeners.
Patented, Low-Profile Subwoofer Driver
At only 2.5-inches deep and 1.5 inches of peak-to-peak excursion capability, the Fathom® IWS driver is an engineering marvel. Its ingenious, and patented, ‘concentric tube’ suspension design places the motor structure further forward than conventional designs while creating the necessary clearance for a long-excursion system. • DMA-optimized, low-distortion motor system
• 7-inch diameter voice coil
• Mica-filled polypropylene cone / rubber surround
• Cast-aluminum basket
• Built in Miramar, FL, USA
Thin-Wall Enclosure Construction with Extensive Bracing
The simple black exterior of the IWS enclosure conceals a fiendishly complex internal structure aimed at maximizing internal enclosure volume while maintaining rigidity and controlling resonance. Over twenty individual CNC-cut parts are assembled by expert craftsmen in our Miramar, FL factory to make each IWS enclosure.
Engineered Mounting System & Wire Routing
The success of an in-wall system is highly dependent on the ability of its mounting system to create a solid, rattle-free installation. The patent-pending IWS mounting system uses steel brackets with rubber-isolated, machined cup and peg hardware to effectively isolate the enclosure from the studs and wall surfaces.
A vertical speaker wiring conduit is integrated into the enclosure to feed the front-mounted speaker terminals. These are accessible by removing the grille for troubleshooting, testing or A.R.O. pre-calibration of remote-mounted IWS amplifiers.
Paintable Wall-Grille
The sturdy and attractive steel mesh grille has been carefully engineered to mount to the wall surface and seal to the front surface of the enclosure, while maintaining mechanical isolation to prevent rattles. Can be painted to match the wall color.
Amplifier Technology:
Inside the spectacular cast and extruded aluminum chassis lies an uncommonly powerful and sophisticated switching amplifier/ processor engineered specifically for each IWS system.
The full suite of Fathom® signal processing features is on-board, including our exclusive A.R.O. (automatic room optimization) system. Using the included laboratory-grade microphone, the A.R.O. system measures the response of the Fathom® IWS system in the listening space, analyzes it and automatically corrects it with a powerful equalizer for optimal bass quality.
