The UPM-1 Plug-in is a stereo-to-5.1 upmix plug-in available for TDM, VST & AU platforms, and is the software version of the established SoundField UPM-1 hardware unit. It enables HD broadcasters to generate acceptable 5.1 broadcast mixes from archived stereo material. The UPM-1 Plug-in uses a unique approach to 5.1 upmixing – instead of processing the stereo material through reverbs or phase-shifting algorithms to create the rear channels, the UPM-1 analyses the stereo signal over time to detect reverberant material in the stereo signal and separate it from the mix. Users can adjust the details of the processing directly from the UPM-1 software interface, which offers controls for controlling the surround width, depth and an option to create a discrete centre channel or create a phantom centre.
